The cause of the accident has been determined. Apparently the driver's phone was ringing, he dropped it and reached down to the floor of the vehicle to pick it up, pulling the steering wheel with him.
Also, after the multiple mental acuity tests it's been determined that mum has some slight brain damage. She is aware of it, and is fine in her own environment and able to get through the day. Being able to concentrate on one thing at a time and not trying to multi task seems to be the key to getting things done, otherwise things go horribly wrong. Because of all this it seems unlikely she'll be able to get a licence to drive ever again. It's also going to take a couple of years for the insurance company to pay out, since they want to test her again 2 years from the date of the accident, August 2007, and see if she is stable or deteriorating to determine the settlement total I guess.
