On August 26th my mother and step father were involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle. According to the police on scene the other driver was at fault. Unfortunately it was no minor incident, it killed my step father instantly and my mother has been in hospital ever since.

All this happened in Australia while I am currently living in the USA.

What's next?

Crash | frustration | Mum's health

The cause of the accident has been determined. Apparently the driver's phone was ringing, he dropped it and reached down to the floor of the vehicle to pick it up, pulling the steering wheel with him.

Finally, a little forward momentum...

Crash | frustration | grief | Mum's health

I got a chance to catch up with my mother and sister this weekend, mum is doing a little better but there is a small fear of some sort of brain injury. She seems the same to me if you allow a little room for depression and repressed anger, all the usual feelings that you'd expect when the love of your life has been prematurely taken from you. She will need to take what has been referred to in layman's terms as a brain test. Basically being isolated and observed for 5 days. Sounds pretty taxing to me. The will has been read and Kieran's children are probably going to protest it but mum's lawyer says the will is pretty solid.

Some new and interesting twists.

Crash

I just got off the phone with my sister. It seems that the towing company wants around $1000 AUD for towing the car and that Telstra wants about 900 or so AUD for the early termination of my step father's mobile phone contract. We are talking with the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman to see what we can do to settle the issue.
